* fbdev: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König2024-10-081-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/video/fbdev to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. While touching these files, make indention of the struct initializer consistent in several files. * fbdev/hgafb: Initialize fb_ops to fbdev I/O-memory helpersThomas Zimmermann2023-10-191-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Initialize the instance of struct fb_ops with fbdev initializer macros for framebuffers in I/O address space. Set the read/write, draw and mmap callbacks to the correct implementation and avoid implicit defaults. Also select the necessary I/O helpers in Kconfig. Fbdev drivers sometimes rely on the callbacks being NULL for a default implementation to be invoked; hence requiring the I/O helpers to be built in any case. Setting all callbacks in all drivers explicitly will allow to make the I/O helpers optional. This benefits systems that do not use these functions. No functional changes. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The flag FBINFO_DEFAULT is 0 and has no effect, as struct fbinfo.flags has been allocated to zero by framebuffer_alloc(). * fbdev: hgafb: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König2023-04-241-4/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. * video: hgafb: correctly handle card detect failure during probeAnirudh Rayabharam2021-05-211-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The return value of hga_card_detect() is not properly handled causing the probe to succeed even though hga_card_detect() failed. Since probe succeeds, hgafb_open() can be called which will end up operating on an unmapped hga_vram. This results in an out-of-bounds access as reported by kernel test robot [1]. To fix this, correctly detect failure of hga_card_detect() by checking for a non-zero error code. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The return of ioremap if not checked, and can lead to a NULL to be assigned to hga_vram. Potentially leading to a NULL pointer dereference. The fix adds code to deal with this case in the error label and changes how the hgafb_probe handles the return of hga_card_detect. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit ec7f6aad57ad29e4e66cc2e18e1e1599ddb02542. Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were correct or not. Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a later kernel change. This patch "looks" correct, but the driver keeps on running and will fail horribly right afterward if this error condition ever trips. So points for trying to resolve an issue, but a huge NEGATIVE value for providing a "fake" fix for the problem as nothing actually got resolved at all. I'll go fix this up properly... * video: constify fb ops across all driversJani Nikula2019-12-051-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that the fbops member of struct fb_info is const, we can start making the ops const as well. This does not cover all drivers; some actually modify the fbops struct, for example to adjust for different configurations, and others do more involved things that I'd rather not touch in practically obsolete drivers. Mostly this is the low hanging fruit where we can add "const" and be done with it. v3: - un-constify atyfb, mb862xx, nvidia and uvesabf (0day) v2: - fix typo (Christophe de Dinechin) - use "static const" instead of "const static" in mx3fb.c - also constify smscufx.c Cc: linux-fbdev@vger.kernel.org Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/ce67f14435f3af498f2e8bf35ce4be11f7504132.1575390740.git.jani.nikula@intel.com

* video: move fbdev to drivers/video/fbdevTomi Valkeinen2014-04-171-0/+667
The drivers/video directory is a mess. It contains generic video related files, directories for backlight, console, linux logo, lots of fbdev device drivers, fbdev framework files. Make some order into the chaos by creating drivers/video/fbdev directory, and move all fbdev related files there. No functionality is changed, although I guess it is possible that some subtle Makefile build order related issue could be created by this patch.
