* openrisc: Implement fixmap to fix earlyconStafford Horne2024-10-151-0/+37
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With commit 53c98e35dcbc ("openrisc: mm: remove unneeded early ioremap code") it was commented that early ioremap was not used in OpenRISC. I acked this but was wrong, earlycon was using it. Earlycon setup now fails with the below trace: Kernel command line: earlycon ------------[ cut here ]------------ WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 0 at mm/ioremap.c:23 generic_ioremap_prot+0x118/0x130 Modules linked in: CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper Not tainted 6.11.0-rc5-00001-gce02fd891c38-dirty #141 Call trace: [<(ptrval)>] dump_stack_lvl+0x7c/0x9c [<(ptrval)>] dump_stack+0x1c/0x2c [<(ptrval)>] __warn+0xb4/0x108 [<(ptrval)>] ? generic_ioremap_prot+0x118/0x130 [<(ptrval)>] warn_slowpath_fmt+0x60/0x98 [<(ptrval)>] generic_ioremap_prot+0x118/0x130 [<(ptrval)>] ioremap_prot+0x20/0x30 [<(ptrval)>] of_setup_earlycon+0xd4/0x2e0 [<(ptrval)>] early_init_dt_scan_chosen_stdout+0x18c/0x1c8 [<(ptrval)>] param_setup_earlycon+0x3c/0x60 [<(ptrval)>] do_early_param+0xb0/0x118 [<(ptrval)>] parse_args+0x184/0x4b8 [<(ptrval)>] ? start_kernel+0x0/0x78c [<(ptrval)>] parse_early_options+0x40/0x50 [<(ptrval)>] ? do_early_param+0x0/0x118 [<(ptrval)>] parse_early_param+0x48/0x68 [<(ptrval)>] ? start_kernel+0x318/0x78c [<(ptrval)>] ? start_kernel+0x0/0x78c ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]--- To fix this we could either implement early_ioremap again or implement fixmap. In this patch we choose the later option of implementing basic fixmap support. While fixing this we also remove the old FIX_IOREMAP slots that were used by early ioremap code. That code was also removed by commit 53c98e35dcbc ("openrisc: mm: remove unneeded early ioremap code") but these definitions were not cleaned up. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This enables ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT on the platform and exports standard vm_get_page_prot() implementation via DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT, which looks up a private and static protection_map[] array. * mm: don't include asm/pgtable.h if linux/mm.h is already includedMike Rapoport2020-06-091-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2. The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported architectures. Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils down to, e.g. static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address) { return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1); } static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address) { return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address); } These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined. For architectures that really need a custom version there is always possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic. These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table accessors to the new header. This patch (of 12): The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h> in the files that include <linux/mm.h>. The include statements in such cases are remove with a simple loop: for f in $(git grep -l "include <linux/mm.h>") ; do sed -i -e '/include <asm\/pgtable.h>/ d' $f done Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@alien8.de> Cc: Brian Cain <bcain@codeaurora.org> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net> Cc: "David S. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Patch series "provide a generic free_initmem implementation", v2. These patches switch those architectures to use a generic implementation that does free_initmem_default(POISON_FREE_INITMEM). This was inspired by Christoph's patches for free_initrd_mem [1] and I shamelessly copied changelog entries from his patches :) [1] https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20190213174621.29297-1-hch@lst.de/ This patch (of 2): For most architectures free_initmem just a wrapper for the same free_initmem_default(-1) call. * openrisc: prefer memblock APIs returning virtual addressMike Rapoport2019-03-121-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Patch series "Refine memblock API", v2. Current memblock API is quite extensive and, which is more annoying, duplicated. Except the low-level functions that allow searching for a free memory region and marking it as reserved, memblock provides three (well, two and a half) sets of functions to allocate memory. There are several overlapping functions that return a physical address and there are functions that return virtual address. Those that return the virtual address may also clear the allocated memory. And, on top of all that, some allocators panic and some return NULL in case of error. This set tries to reduce the mess, and trim down the amount of memblock allocation methods. Patches 1-10 consolidate the functions that return physical address of the allocated memory Patches 11-13 are some trivial cleanups Patches 14-19 add checks for the return value of memblock_alloc*() and panics in case of errors. The patches 14-18 include some minor refactoring to have better readability of the resulting code and patch 19 is a mechanical addition of if (!ptr) panic(); after memblock_alloc*() calls. And, finally, patches 20 and 21 remove panic() calls memblock and _nopanic variants from memblock. This patch (of 21): The allocation of the page tables memory in openrics uses memblock_phys_alloc() and then converts the returned physical address to virtual one. Use memblock_alloc_raw() and add a panic() if the allocation fails. * openrisc: initial SMP supportStefan Kristiansson2017-11-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch introduces the SMP support for the OpenRISC architecture. The SMP architecture requires cores which have multi-core features which have been introduced a few years back including: - New SPRS SPR_COREID SPR_NUMCORES - Shadow SPRs - Atomic Instructions - Cache Coherency - A wired in IPI controller This patch adds all of the SMP specific changes to core infrastructure, it looks big but it needs to go all together as its hard to split this one up. Boot loader spinning of second cpu is not supported yet, it's assumed that Linux is booted straight after cpu reset. The bulk of these changes are trivial changes to refactor to use per cpu data structures throughout. The addition of the smp.c and changes in time.c are the changes. Some specific notes: MM changes ---------- The reason why this is created as an array, and not with DEFINE_PER_CPU is that doing it this way, we'll save a load in the tlb-miss handler (the load from __per_cpu_offset). TLB Flush --------- The SMP implementation of flush_tlb_* works by sending out a function-call IPI to all the non-local cpus by using the generic on_each_cpu() function. Currently, all flush_tlb_* functions will result in a flush_tlb_all(), which has always been the behaviour in the UP case. CPU INFO -------- This creates a per cpu cpuinfo struct and fills it out accordingly for each activated cpu. show_cpuinfo is also updated to reflect new version information in later versions of the spec. SMP API ------- This imitates the arm64 implementation by having a smp_cross_call callback that can be set by set_smp_cross_call to initiate an IPI and a handle_IPI function that is expected to be called from an IPI irqchip driver. * openrisc: fix PTRS_PER_PGD defineStefan Kristiansson2016-12-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On OpenRISC, with its 8k pages, PAGE_SHIFT is defined to be 13. That makes the expression (1UL << (PAGE_SHIFT-2)) evaluate to 2048. The correct value for PTRS_PER_PGD should be 256. Correcting the PTRS_PER_PGD define unveiled a bug in map_ram(), where PTRS_PER_PGD was used when the intent was to iterate over a set of page table entries. This patch corrects that issue as well. * openrisc: update DTLB-miss handler lastJonas Bonn2013-02-171-3/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The self-modifying code that updates the TLB handler at start-up has a subtle ordering requirement: the DTLB handler must be the last thing changed. What I was seeing was the following: i) The DTLB handler was updated ii) The following printk caused a TLB miss and the look-up resulted in the page containing itlb_vector (0xc0000a00) being bounced from the TLB. iii) The subsequent access to itlb_vector caused a TLB miss and reload of the page containing itlb_vector from the page tables. iv) But this reload of the page in iii) was being done by the "new" DTLB-miss handler which resulted (correctly) in the page flags being set to read-only; the subsequent write-access to itlb_vector thus resulted in a page (access) fault. This is easily remedied if we ensure that the boot-time DTLB-miss handler continues running until the very last bit of self-modifying code has been executed. This patch should ensure that the very last thing updated is the DTLB-handler itself. I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can and made sure that they don't break. The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2(). This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h. The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg. memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()). These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces: (1) asm/barrier.h Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha. (2) asm/switch_to.h Move switch_to() and related stuff here. (3) asm/exec.h Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h. (4) asm/cmpxchg.h Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg(). (5) asm/bug.h Move die() and related bits. (6) asm/auxvec.h Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here. Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis." Fixed up some conflicts from other header file cleanups and moving code around that has happened in the meantime, so David's testing is somewhat weakened by that. We'll find out anything that got broken and fix it.. * tag 'split-asm_system_h-for-linus-20120328' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-asm_system: (38 commits) Delete all instances of asm/system.h Remove all #inclusions of asm/system.h Add #includes needed to permit the removal of asm/system.h Move all declarations of free_initmem() to linux/mm.h Disintegrate asm/system.h for OpenRISC Split arch_align_stack() out from asm-generic/system.h Split the switch_to() wrapper out of asm-generic/system.h Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg() implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h Create asm-generic/barrier.h Make asm-generic/cmpxchg.h #include asm-generic/cmpxchg-local.h Disintegrate asm/system.h for Xtensa Disintegrate asm/system.h for Unicore32 [based on ver #3, changed by gxt] Disintegrate asm/system.h for Tile Disintegrate asm/system.h for Sparc Disintegrate asm/system.h for SH Disintegrate asm/system.h for Score Disintegrate asm/system.h for S390 Disintegrate asm/system.h for PowerPC Disintegrate asm/system.h for PA-RISC Disintegrate asm/system.h for MN10300 ...
