* xsk: Bring back busy polling supportStanislav Fomichev2025-01-111-5/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 86e25f40aa1e ("net: napi: Add napi_config") moved napi->napi_id assignment to a later point in time (napi_hash_add_with_id). This breaks __xdp_rxq_info_reg which copies napi_id at an earlier time and now stores 0 napi_id. It also makes sk_mark_napi_id_once_xdp and __sk_mark_napi_id_once useless because they now work against 0 napi_id. Since sk_busy_loop requires valid napi_id to busy-poll on, there is no way to busy-poll AF_XDP sockets anymore. Bring back the ability to busy-poll on XSK by resolving socket's napi_id at bind time. This relies on relatively recent netif_queue_set_napi, but (assume) at this point most popular drivers should have been converted. This also removes per-tx/rx cycles which used to check and/or set the napi_id value. Confirmed by running a busy-polling AF_XDP socket (github.com/fomichev/xskrtt) on mlx5 and looking at BusyPollRxPackets from /proc/net/netstat. * xsk: always clear DMA mapping information when unmapping the poolLarysa Zaremba2024-11-251-3/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the umem is shared, the DMA mapping is also shared between the xsk pools, therefore it should stay valid as long as at least 1 user remains. However, the pool also keeps the copies of DMA-related information that are initialized in the same way in xp_init_dma_info(), but cleared by xp_dma_unmap() only for the last remaining pool, this causes the problems below. The first one is that the commit adbf5a42341f ("ice: remove af_xdp_zc_qps bitmap") relies on pool->dev to determine the presence of a ZC pool on a given queue, avoiding internal bookkeeping. This works perfectly fine if the UMEM is not shared, but reliably fails otherwise as stated in the linked report. The second one is pool->dma_pages which is dynamically allocated and only freed in xp_dma_unmap(), this leads to a small memory leak. kmemleak does not catch it, but by printing the allocation results after terminating the userspace program it is possible to see that all addresses except the one belonging to the last detached pool are still accessible through the kmemleak dump functionality. Always clear the DMA mapping information from the pool and free pool->dma_pages when unmapping the pool, so that the only difference between results of the last remaining user's call and the ones before would be the destruction of the DMA mapping. * xsk: fix OOB map writes when deleting elementsMaciej Fijalkowski2024-11-251-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Jordy says: " In the xsk_map_delete_elem function an unsigned integer (map->max_entries) is compared with a user-controlled signed integer (k). Due to implicit type conversion, a large unsigned value for map->max_entries can bypass the intended bounds check: if (k >= map->max_entries) return -EINVAL; This allows k to hold a negative value (between -2147483648 and -2), which is then used as an array index in m->xsk_map[k], which results in an out-of-bounds access. spin_lock_bh(&m->lock); map_entry = &m->xsk_map[k]; // Out-of-bounds map_entry old_xs = unrcu_pointer(xchg(map_entry, NULL)); // Oob write if (old_xs) xsk_map_sock_delete(old_xs, map_entry); spin_unlock_bh(&m->lock); The xchg operation can then be used to cause an out-of-bounds write. Moreover, the invalid map_entry passed to xsk_map_sock_delete can lead to further memory corruption. | * xsk: Free skb when TX metadata options are invalidFelix Maurer2024-11-151-5/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When a new skb is allocated for transmitting an xsk descriptor, i.e., for every non-multibuf descriptor or the first frag of a multibuf descriptor, but the descriptor is later found to have invalid options set for the TX metadata, the new skb is never freed. This can leak skbs until the send buffer is full which makes sending more packets impossible. Fix this by freeing the skb in the error path if we are currently dealing with the first frag, i.e., an skb allocated in this iteration of xsk_build_skb. | * xsk: Try to make xdp_umem_reg extension a bit more future-proofStanislav Fomichev2024-07-311-11/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We recently found out that extending xsk_umem_reg might be a bit complicated due to not enforcing padding to be zero [0]. Add a couple of things to make it less error-prone: 1. Remove xdp_umem_reg_v2 since its sizeof is the same as xdp_umem_reg 2. Add BUILD_BUG_ON that checks that the size of xdp_umem_reg_v1 is less than xdp_umem_reg; presumably, when we get to v2, there is gonna be a similar line to enforce that sizeof(v2) > sizeof(v1) 3. Add BUILD_BUG_ON to make sure the last field plus its size matches the overall struct size. The intent is to demonstrate that we don't have any lingering padding. 0: https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/ZqI29QE+5JnkdPmE@boxer/T/#me03113f7c2458fd08f3c4114a7a9472ac3646c98 Reported-by: Julian Schindel <mail@arctic-alpaca.de> Cc: Magnus Karlsson <magnus.karlsson@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Maciej Fijalkowski <maciej.fijalkowski@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Stanislav Fomichev <sdf@fomichev.me> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240726222048.1397869-1-sdf@fomichev.me Signed-off-by: Martin KaFai Lau <martin.lau@kernel.org>

| * | xsk: fix batch alloc API on non-coherent systemsMaciej Fijalkowski2024-09-141-7/+18
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In cases when synchronizing DMA operations is necessary, xsk_buff_alloc_batch() returns a single buffer instead of the requested count. This puts the pressure on drivers that use batch API as they have to check for this corner case on their side and take care of allocations by themselves, which feels counter productive. Let us improve the core by looping over xp_alloc() @max times when slow path needs to be taken. Another issue with current interface, as spotted and fixed by Dries, was that when driver called xsk_buff_alloc_batch() with @max == 0, for slow path case it still allocated and returned a single buffer, which should not happen. By introducing the logic from first paragraph we kill two birds with one stone and address this problem as well. | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have STAT_FILL_EMPTY test case in xskxceiver that tries to process traffic with fill queue being empty which currently fails for zero copy ice driver after it started to use xsk_buff_can_alloc() API. That is because xsk_queue::queue_empty_descs is currently only increased from alloc APIs and right now if driver sees that xsk_buff_pool will be unable to provide the requested count of buffers, it bails out early, skipping calls to xsk_buff_alloc{_batch}(). Mentioned statistic should be handled in xsk_buff_can_alloc() from the very beginning, so let's add this logic now. Do it by open coding xskq_cons_has_entries() and bumping queue_empty_descs in the middle when fill queue currently has no entries. * / netdev: support binding dma-buf to netdeviceMina Almasry2024-09-121-0/+5
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add a netdev_dmabuf_binding struct which represents the dma-buf-to-netdevice binding. The netlink API will bind the dma-buf to rx queues on the netdevice. On the binding, the dma_buf_attach & dma_buf_map_attachment will occur. The entries in the sg_table from mapping will be inserted into a genpool to make it ready for allocation. The chunks in the genpool are owned by a dmabuf_chunk_owner struct which holds the dma-buf offset of the base of the chunk and the dma_addr of the chunk. Both are needed to use allocations that come from this chunk. We create a new type that represents an allocation from the genpool: net_iov. We setup the net_iov allocation size in the genpool to PAGE_SIZE for simplicity: to match the PAGE_SIZE normally allocated by the page pool and given to the drivers. The user can unbind the dmabuf from the netdevice by closing the netlink socket that established the binding. We do this so that the binding is automatically unbound even if the userspace process crashes. The binding and unbinding leaves an indicator in struct netdev_rx_queue that the given queue is bound, and the binding is actuated by resetting the rx queue using the queue API. The netdev_dmabuf_binding struct is refcounted, and releases its resources only when all the refs are released. * net: Move flush list retrieval to where it is used.Sebastian Andrzej Siewior2024-07-021-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The bpf_net_ctx_get_.*_flush_list() are used at the top of the function. This means the variable is always assigned even if unused. By moving the function to where it is used, it is possible to delay the initialisation until it is unavoidable. Not sure how much this gains in reality but by looking at bq_enqueue() (in devmap.c) gcc pushes one register less to the stack. \o/. Move flush list retrieval to where it is used. * net: Optimize xdp_do_flush() with bpf_net_context infos.Sebastian Andrzej Siewior2024-07-021-12/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Every NIC driver utilizing XDP should invoke xdp_do_flush() after processing all packages. With the introduction of the bpf_net_context logic the flush lists (for dev, CPU-map and xsk) are lazy initialized only if used. However xdp_do_flush() tries to flush all three of them so all three lists are always initialized and the likely empty lists are "iterated". Without the usage of XDP but with CONFIG_DEBUG_NET the lists are also initialized due to xdp_do_check_flushed(). Jakub suggest to utilize the hints in bpf_net_context and avoid invoking the flush function. This will also avoiding initializing the lists which are otherwise unused. Introduce bpf_net_ctx_get_all_used_flush_lists() to return the individual list if not-empty. Use the logic in xdp_do_flush() and xdp_do_check_flushed(). Remove the not needed .*_check_flush(). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The per-CPU flush lists, which are accessed from within the NAPI callback (xdp_do_flush() for instance), are per-CPU. * Revert "xsk: Support redirect to any socket bound to the same umem"Magnus Karlsson2024-06-051-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit 2863d665ea41282379f108e4da6c8a2366ba66db. This patch introduced a potential kernel crash when multiple napi instances redirect to the same AF_XDP socket. By removing the queue_index check, it is possible for multiple napi instances to access the Rx ring at the same time, which will result in a corrupted ring state which can lead to a crash when flushing the rings in __xsk_flush(). This can happen when the linked list of sockets to flush gets corrupted by concurrent accesses. A quick and small fix is not possible, so let us revert this for now. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | xsk_build_skb() allocates a page and adds it to the skb via skb_add_rx_frag() and specifies 0 for truesize. This leads to a warning in skb_add_rx_frag() with CONFIG_DEBUG_NET enabled because size is larger than truesize. Increasing truesize requires to add the same amount to socket's sk_wmem_alloc counter in order not to underflow the counter during release in the destructor (sock_wfree()). Pass the size of the allocated page as truesize to skb_add_rx_frag(). Add this mount to socket's sk_wmem_alloc counter. | * xsk: make xsk_buff_pool responsible for clearing xdp_buff::flagsMaciej Fijalkowski2024-01-251-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | XDP multi-buffer support introduced XDP_FLAGS_HAS_FRAGS flag that is used by drivers to notify data path whether xdp_buff contains fragments or not. Data path looks up mentioned flag on first buffer that occupies the linear part of xdp_buff, so drivers only modify it there. This is sufficient for SKB and XDP_DRV modes as usually xdp_buff is allocated on stack or it resides within struct representing driver's queue and fragments are carried via skb_frag_t structs. IOW, we are dealing with only one xdp_buff. ZC mode though relies on list of xdp_buff structs that is carried via xsk_buff_pool::xskb_list, so ZC data path has to make sure that fragments do *not* have XDP_FLAGS_HAS_FRAGS set. Otherwise, xsk_buff_free() could misbehave if it would be executed against xdp_buff that carries a frag with XDP_FLAGS_HAS_FRAGS flag set. Such scenario can take place when within supplied XDP program bpf_xdp_adjust_tail() is used with negative offset that would in turn release the tail fragment from multi-buffer frame. Calling xsk_buff_free() on tail fragment with XDP_FLAGS_HAS_FRAGS would result in releasing all the nodes from xskb_list that were produced by driver before XDP program execution, which is not what is intended - only tail fragment should be deleted from xskb_list and then it should be put onto xsk_buff_pool::free_list. Such multi-buffer frame will never make it up to user space, so from AF_XDP application POV there would be no traffic running, however due to free_list getting constantly new nodes, driver will be able to feed HW Rx queue with recycled buffers. Bottom line is that instead of traffic being redirected to user space, it would be continuously dropped. To fix this, let us clear the mentioned flag on xsk_buff_pool side during xdp_buff initialization, which is what should have been done right from the start of XSK multi-buffer support. The main changes are: 1) Fix kCFI bugs in BPF, from Peter Zijlstra. End result: all forms of indirect calls from BPF into kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y. 2) Introduce BPF token object, from Andrii Nakryiko. It adds an ability to delegate a subset of BPF features from privileged daemon (e.g., systemd) through special mount options for userns-bound BPF FS to a trusted unprivileged application. The design accommodates suggestions from Christian Brauner and Paul Moore. Example: $ sudo mkdir -p /sys/fs/bpf/token $ sudo mount -t bpf bpffs /sys/fs/bpf/token \ -o delegate_cmds=prog_load:MAP_CREATE \ -o delegate_progs=kprobe \ -o delegate_attachs=xdp 3) Various verifier improvements and fixes, from Andrii Nakryiko, Andrei Matei. - Complete precision tracking support for register spills - Fix verification of possibly-zero-sized stack accesses - Fix access to uninit stack slots - Track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers. It improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from single digit to 50-60% for some programs. - Fix verifier retval logic 4) Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints, from Larysa Zaremba. 5) Allocate BPF trampoline via bpf_prog_pack mechanism, from Song Liu. End result: better memory utilization and lower I$ miss for calls to BPF via BPF trampoline. 6) Fix race between BPF prog accessing inner map and parallel delete, from Hou Tao. 7) Add bpf_xdp_get_xfrm_state() kfunc, from Daniel Xu. It allows BPF interact with IPSEC infra. The intent is to support software RSS (via XDP) for the upcoming ipsec pcpu work. Experiments on AWS demonstrate single tunnel pcpu ipsec reaching line rate on 100G ENA nics. 8) Expand bpf_cgrp_storage to support cgroup1 non-attach, from Yafang Shao. 9) BPF file verification via fsverity, from Song Liu. It allows BPF progs get fsverity digest. * tag 'for-netdev' of https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next: (164 commits) bpf: Ensure precise is reset to false in __mark_reg_const_zero() selftests/bpf: Add more uprobe multi fail tests bpf: Fail uprobe multi link with negative offset selftests/bpf: Test the release of map btf s390/bpf: Fix indirect trampoline generation selftests/bpf: Temporarily disable dummy_struct_ops test on s390 x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_exception_cb() signature bpf: Fix dtor CFI cfi: Add CFI_NOSEAL() x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_struct_ops CFI x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_callback_t CFI x86/cfi,bpf: Fix BPF JIT call cfi: Flip headers selftests/bpf: Add test for abnormal cnt during multi-kprobe attachment selftests/bpf: Don't use libbpf_get_error() in kprobe_multi_test selftests/bpf: Add test for abnormal cnt during multi-uprobe attachment bpf: Limit the number of kprobes when attaching program to multiple kprobes bpf: Limit the number of uprobes when attaching program to multiple uprobes bpf: xdp: Register generic_kfunc_set with XDP programs selftests/bpf: utilize string values for delegate_xxx mount options ... ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231219000520.34178-1-alexei.starovoitov@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

* | xsk: Add TX timestamp and TX checksum offload supportStanislav Fomichev2023-11-292-1/+35

The first field is flags which requests appropriate offloads, followed by the offload-specific fields. The supported per-device offloads are exported via netlink (new xsk-flags). The offloads themselves are still implemented in a bit of a framework-y fashion that's left from my initial kfunc attempt. I'm introducing new xsk_tx_metadata_ops which drivers are supposed to implement. The drivers are also supposed to call xsk_tx_metadata_request/xsk_tx_metadata_complete in the right places. Since xsk_tx_metadata_{request,_complete} are static inline, we don't incur any extra overhead doing indirect calls. The benefit of this scheme is as follows: - keeps all metadata layout parsing away from driver code - makes it easy to grep and see which drivers implement what - don't need any extra flags to maintain to keep track of what offloads are implemented; if the callback is implemented - the offload is supported (used by netlink reporting code) Two offloads are defined right now: 1. XDP_TXMD_FLAGS_CHECKSUM: skb-style csum_start+csum_offset 2. XDP_TXMD_FLAGS_TIMESTAMP: writes TX timestamp back into metadata area upon completion (tx_timestamp field) XDP_TXMD_FLAGS_TIMESTAMP is also implemented for XDP_COPY mode: it writes SW timestamp from the skb destructor (note I'm reusing hwtstamps to pass metadata pointer). The struct is forward-compatible and can be extended in the future by appending more fields. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For zerocopy mode, tx_desc->addr can point to an arbitrary offset and carry some TX metadata in the headroom. For copy mode, there is no way currently to populate skb metadata. Introduce new tx_metadata_len umem config option that indicates how many bytes to treat as metadata. Metadata bytes come prior to tx_desc address (same as in RX case). The size of the metadata has mostly the same constraints as XDP: - less than 256 bytes - 8-byte aligned (compared to 4-byte alignment on xdp, due to 8-byte timestamp in the completion) - non-zero This data is not interpreted in any way right now. * xsk: Avoid starving the xsk further down the listAlbert Huang2023-10-241-0/+18
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the previous implementation, when multiple xsk sockets were associated with a single xsk_buff_pool, a situation could arise where the xsk_tx_list maintained data at the front for one xsk socket while starving the xsk sockets at the back of the list. This could result in issues such as the inability to transmit packets, increased latency, and jitter. To address this problem, we introduce a new variable called tx_budget_spent, which limits each xsk to transmit a maximum of MAX_PER_SOCKET_BUDGET tx descriptors. This allocation ensures equitable opportunities for subsequent xsk sockets to send tx descriptors. The value of MAX_PER_SOCKET_BUDGET is set to 32. The next PAGE_ALIGN(size) is such case will overflow the size_t value and set it to 0. This will trigger WARN_ON_ONCE in vmalloc_user() -> __vmalloc_node_range(). * | xsk: add multi-buffer support for sockets sharing umemTirthendu Sarkar2023-09-152-1/+4
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Userspace applications indicate their multi-buffer capability to xsk using XSK_USE_SG socket bind flag. For sockets using shared umem the bind flag may contain XSK_USE_SG only for the first socket. For any subsequent socket the only option supported is XDP_SHARED_UMEM. Add option XDP_UMEM_SG_FLAG in umem config flags to store the multi-buffer handling capability when indicated by XSK_USE_SG option in bing flag by the first socket. Use this to derive multi-buffer capability for subsequent sockets in xsk core. * xsk: Fix xsk_diag use-after-free error during socket cleanupMagnus Karlsson2023-08-311-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix a use-after-free error that is possible if the xsk_diag interface is used after the socket has been unbound from the device. This can happen either due to the socket being closed or the device disappearing. In the early days of AF_XDP, the way we tested that a socket was not bound to a device was to simply check if the netdevice pointer in the xsk socket structure was NULL. Later, a better system was introduced by having an explicit state variable in the xsk socket struct. For example, the state of a socket that is on the way to being closed and has been unbound from the device is XSK_UNBOUND. The commit in the Fixes tag below deleted the old way of signalling that a socket is unbound, setting dev to NULL. This in the belief that all code using the old way had been exterminated. That was unfortunately not true as the xsk diagnostics code was still using the old way and thus does not work as intended when a socket is going down. Fix this by introducing a test against the state variable. If the socket is in the state XSK_UNBOUND, simply abort the diagnostic's netlink operation. * xsk: Fix xsk_build_skb() error: 'skb' dereferencing possible ERR_PTR()Tirthendu Sarkar2023-08-301-9/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, xsk_build_skb() is a function that builds skb in two possible ways and then is ended with common error handling. We can distinguish four possible error paths and handling in xsk_build_skb(): 1. sock_alloc_send_skb fails: Retry (skb is NULL). 2. skb_store_bits fails : Free skb and retry. 3. MAX_SKB_FRAGS exceeded: Free skb, cleanup and drop packet. 4. alloc_page fails for frag: Retry page allocation w/o freeing skb 1] and 3] can happen in xsk_build_skb_zerocopy(), which is one of the two code paths responsible for building skb. Common error path in xsk_build_skb() assumes that in case errno != -EAGAIN, skb is a valid pointer, which is wrong as kernel test robot reports that in xsk_build_skb_zerocopy() other errno values are returned for skb being NULL. To fix this, set -EOVERFLOW as error when MAX_SKB_FRAGS are exceeded and packet needs to be dropped in both xsk_build_skb() and xsk_build_skb_zerocopy() and use this to distinguish against all other error cases. Also, add explicit kfree_skb() for 3] so that handling of 1], 2], and 3] becomes identical where allocation needs to be retried.
